Who can apply?
The principle objective of the SSBF continues to be the relief of cases of need or distress among former Members of the Scottish Stock Exchange and their dependents. Since no new members of the Scottish Stock Exchange can be added to the lists, the help is now extended to all employees of Scottish businesses which are members of the London Stock Exchange.
The Trustees confirm that they consider guidance on public benefit from OSCR when reviewing the Benevolent Fund’s aims and objectives, and in planning future activities, and setting grant making policy for the year.
The fund carries out these objectives by providing grants to individuals in need, or to prevent or relieve poverty in the form of:
· Annuities on a discretionary basis.
· Donations to those requiring temporary help.
· Emergency grants for one-off payments.
· Help to those that are sick or with disabilities, such as for medical equipment and carers.
Applicants are treated on an individual basis depending on their needs and requirements.
Can you apply for someone else?
Yes.
If a member of the Scottish Stock Exchange, or former member of staff of a Scottish business which is a member of the London Stock Exchange, needs our help – we want to know about it! If they cannot apply personally, their guardian, spouse or representative can meet with us in their place, but we would expect to satisfy ourselves that they have the legal right to act for that individual.
How to make an Application
We would suggest making an informal enquiry, to let the Trust know your difficulties, and circumstances. Speak either to the Secretary, or a Trustee, and see whether they think the Trust might offer assistance. Confidentiality is important to everyone, and will be respected by trustees and the secretary.
As part of that application, we expect that the secretary and a trustee will wish to meet you, or the person you are applying for, and that can normally be arranged over the phone or by email. Depending on circumstances, before that meeting, the secretary will send you a short application form, which will put in simple terms the administrative details and the financial position of the applicant.
We will wish to confirm that the application is for someone matching our criteria, and may perform some more detailed work to verify the information on the application form.
We are a part time organisation without a full time office. For this reason our response may not be rapid, but we will press ahead and do not need to wait for a biannual meeting to act.
